It is important to understand and manage our emotions for optimal development and psychosocial well-being. Emotional awareness means respecting, recognizing, and accepting your feelings as they happen. Understanding emotions fully involves knowing why emotions are important, and how they are a necessary part of life.
When we can understand our emotions and manage them, we are more likely to express ourselves inappropriate ways, controller impulses, and bounce back easily after feeling strong emotions.
This can be especially difficult for people who identify as sensitive and have high emotional intelligence (EQ). You may experience emotions all at once, and feel unable to sort through, organize, and understand your experience.
